Getting around

Philadelphia sits in the heart of the Northeast Corridor and is within a day's drive of  40% of the country’s population. By train or car, Philadelphia is less than two hours from New York City and less than three hours from Washington, D.C.

With 29 airlines and more than 1,400 flights arriving and departing daily at Philadelphia International Airport, getting into Philadelphia is a breeze. The short trek into Center City from the airport takes 20 minutes on the Regional Rail Line. Flat-rate fare cabs and busses also make travel to and from the airport a quick and easy hop.

Whether by plane, train or car, chances are Philadelphia is closer than you think.

Around town

The only thing easier than getting to Philadelphia is getting around once you're here. In Philadelphia, everything is just around the corner, but miles from ordinary.

Hop aboard SEPTA, which provides an extensive network of buses, subways, trolleys, and regional rail lines allowing you to navigate not only Center City, but the surrounding region.

SEPTA’s Phlash is a seasonal bus route designed to be a quick and easy connection between Center City attractions and most downtown hotels. Service is approximately every 12 minutes. It is one of the best ways to get around to 25 key locations in Center City and is just $2 each time you board or just $5 for an all-day individual pass and $10 for an all-day family pass. So hop-on and hop-off the purple bus to see Philadelphia in a Phlash!

Renting a car? There are more than 13,000 parking spaces in Center City. And if you need to get somewhere fast, Philadelphia has more than 1,600 licensed and trained cabs.

How to get there

Philadelphia is conveniently located in the Northeast, just 1 hour and 20 minutes from New York City and 1 hour and 45 minutes from Washington, D.C., via Amtrak’s Acela Express line.

At Amtrak’s 30th Street Station, attendees from up and down the Northeast Corridor can connect to the local transit system, SEPTA, which offers a direct link to the Pennsylvania Convention Center for free!

29 airlines serve Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) with more than 1,400 daily flights, including 120 international flights. Attendees can connect to Center City on the R1 Line, which stops at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and hotels, for just $7 one way.

Center City is an easy train or cab ride from Philadelphia International Airport—just minutes away—and Amtrak’s 30th Street Station.

Getting here by car is simple for attendees, too. I-95, I-76, and the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Turnpikes provide access from all points on the compass.

Where to stay

With more than 30,000 hotel rooms in the region, more than 8,500 within an easy 15-minute walk of the Pennsylvania Convention Center, attendees will enjoy comfort and convenience in Philadelphia.

As the city prepares for an expanded Convention Center opening in March 2011, hotel developments and renovations continue throughout the city, including the addition of an estimated 2,000 - 2,500 hotel rooms by 2013.

Chemspec USA 2011 will take place at the Pennsylvania Convention Center (PCC), located in the heart of downtown Philadelphia.
